Dance cards were cards or small booklets used to record a woman’s dance partners during the 19th and early 20th centuries. The cards were typically of a souvenir quality, and often had a light cord of sufficient length to wear around the wrist or attach to a dress in some fashion. Some have a pencil attached to the cord as well. Dance cards reveal the type of dances popular during the period and the proper order of dances. The cards in this collection, all from local events, span the period from 1881 to 1919. Of special note is an 1889 dance card from the Texas Spring Palace Ball.
