Scope and Contents Note

This collection consits of three different newspapers published between 1915 and 1919. The Critic consists of issues dating from the newspaper’s inception on December 11, 1915 through December 15, 1917. As well as two single issues dating September 15, 1917 and August 31, 1918. The Critic is also available on microfilm, along with the Fort Worth Texahoma Bugler (1917) and the Taliaferro Target (1918-1919).

The Critic was a ‘militant’ weekly published in Fort Worth, Texas, every Saturday, beginning on December 11, 1915. The mission of The Critic was to “champion the causes and protect the elements that are making Fort Worth the best town in which to live and do business in the Southwest.” The Critic was the work of Garfield Crawford and Kitty Barry Crawford.

The Camp Bowie Texahoma Bugler was a World War I era military post newspaper published for the men stationed at Taliaferro Field/Hicks Field and at Camp Bowie, both located in Fort Worth, Texas. The weekly newspaper carried news items of interest to enlisted men and officers, as well as entertaining stories and advertisements aimed at the military.
