At the time of publication, he was a health planner and coordinator of Manpower Services for the North Central Texas Council of Governments in Arlington. In 1978 he successfully ran for the board of education for the Fort Worth Independent School District serving for six years. He was the first Latino elected to the School Board. In 1991 he became a member of the Fort City Council. After one term, he left public office but continued to be active in Republican Party politics and in organizations such as LULAC in Arlington.
