Scope and Contents

This collection consists of materials relating to the Fort Worth Chapter of the Composers, Authors, and Artists of America, Inc. The organization was founded in 1936 by Mrs. Rosser E. Thomas of Houston, Texas. It was founded as a non-profit organization to conduct and promote literary and educational activities among its members through the following means: a) mutual benefit of men and women actively engaged in the creative work of Art, Music, and Literature; b) stimulation of literary and artistic production; c) promotion of acquaintances and good fellowship among members; d) publication of magazine; e) Sponsor annual Musical and Literary Contests for members and f) Sponsor an annual Art Exhibition of members work.

The collection is divided into four boxes. The first box consists of general materials relating to the Fort Worth, State and National organizations. The second box consists of materials on individual members of the Fort Worth Chapter. The third box contains issues of the CAAA newsletters and other publications. The fourth box contains books and pamphlets by members. It also has programs, periodicals, books and pamphlets on other related subjects. The collection was donated by Mrs. Evelyn Hornsby Mims on June 10, 1960.
