Al Brancato Papers
Scope and Contents Note
The Al Brancato Papers consist of photographs, correspondence, memorabilia, and newspaper clippings.
- The first two folders contain photographs of Mr. Brancato during his time as a member of the Fort Worth Cats, both still and action photographs. In addition, there are several team shots of the Fort Worth Cats.
The third folder contains correspondence between Mr. Brancato and management, fellow team mates, and fans.
The fourth folder contains memorabilia including Mr. Brancato’s paystubs from 1952 and the handbill commemorating the Fort Worth Cats second place finish in 1952.
The fifth folder contains an “Honorary Texan” Certificate issued to Mr. Brancato on March 23, 1948.
The sixth folder contains a lighter commemorating the 1952 Cats tryouts, with Mr. Brancato’s initials.
The remaining six folders contain newspaper clippings from the Fort Worth Press, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, and from newspapers outside the local area. Clippings are arranged in date order.

Biographical / Historical
Al “Bronk” Brancato was born on May 29, 1919 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He played shortstop and third baseman in both the major and minor leagues. Mr. Brancato played for the Philadelphia Athletics from 1939-1941, and in 1945. His career with the A’s was interrupted by his military service. Mr. Brancato played for a number of minor league teams spanning nine seasons. He played for the Fort Worth Cats, an affiliate of the Brooklyn Dodgers, in 1947 and in 1952.
Brancato was married to his wife, Isabel, for 69 years. They had three children, Sister Helen Brancato, Albert Brancato, Jr., and David Brancato. Mr. Brancato died June 14, 2012, in Media, Pennsylvania, at the age of 93.
