Scope and Contents
This collection consists of a single item: an account book for the Association for Procuring Employment for Rebel Deserters who have taken the Oath of Allegiance to the United States. Contributions by members are listed on 2 pages. The book also contains a circular, which notes the surrender of Robert E. Lee's army has removed the need for the association. The funds collected were instead given to the Union Volunteer Refreshment Saloon in Philadelphia. The circular is pasted into the book and the following pages are blank. A hand written notation reads, "Mem. Bank Account opened in the Commercial National Bank 30 March 1865 in name of W.M. Tilghman, Treas of the Association [illegible] in full.
