Scope and Contents

This collection consists of materials relating to the Junior League of Ft. Worth. The annual reports were donated by Marc Smith in 1994. The other materials were pulled from the vertical files and the Miscellaneous Manuscripts: Fort Worth and Tarrant County Collection. This material was acquired over an extended period of time. The annual report has the Constitution and By-laws of the League, membership lists and a history of the organization. The extent of the collection is 3 boxes (1.5 linear feet).

Biographical / Historical

The Junior League of Fort Worth was founded as the Junior Service League in 1929 to aid Fort Worth Day Nursery and Industrial Shop for Adult Blind. In 1930, it became a member of The Association of Junior Leagues of America, Inc. which was founded in 1901. Its purpose is to promote voluntarism, to develop the potential of its members for voluntary participation in community affairs and to demonstrate the effectiveness of trained volunteers. The League is an annual sponsor of Mayfest which was first held in May of 1973.
