Biographical / Historical

Mrs. May Kendall Wilhoit (1879-1966) was a local musician and poet. She was born on September 23, 1879 in Louisville, Illinois, the daughter of Captain Cyrus D. and Susan B. Kendall. They moved to Newton, Illinois. She graduated from the Music Department of Illinois Woman's College, now MacMurray College. On August 19, 1903, she married William DeLong Wilhoit of Fort Worth, Texas, an oil developer and executive of a large shoe manufacturing company. He died on their wedding anniversary in 1921. She was active in local organizations including Harmony Club, Euterpean Club, Fort Worth Poetry Society, National League of American Pen Women and the Music Study Club. May Kendall Wilhoit died on February 26, 1966 and was buried in Newton, Illinois.
