Language of Materials
Frances Daisy Emery Allen (1876-1958), physician, was born on September 5, 1876 in Kaufman County. Her family moved to Fort Worth when she was a teenager and she wanted to become a doctor. She was a student in the charter medical class of Fort Worth University. Frances married Dr. James Walter Allen on November 30, 1903. The Allens had a series of rural practices in Oklahoma and Texas including Vinson, Oklahoma; Content, Texas; Goldsboro, Texas; and Newark, Texas. James Allen died in December of 1913. Dr. Allen returned to Fort Worth with her two daughters and accepted a position as clinical professor of children's diseases at Fort Worth University and opened a private practice. After Fort Worth University closed in 1911, she continued her practice. She was on the staff of Harris, All Saints, and St. Joseph’s hospitals and was a volunteer physician at City-County Hospital and Wesley House Clinic. She retired in 1950 and died on December 7, 1958. Dr. Allen is buried at Greenwood Cemetery in Fort Worth.
